Supermodel Normandie Keith and her multi-millionaire husband, Lucas White, have rented a three-bedroom, three-bathroom penthouse in Battersea for an estimated £2,500 a week through Beaney Pearce. They chose the Richard Rogers-designed Montevetro Building because of its superb river views, 24-hour security and gym facilities. "Normandie and Lucas fell in love with the young, free-and-easy Californian lifestyle it offers," explains a friend. "Before that they were living in stuffy old Belgravia."

Few Londoners can be quite as townie as Chelsea dress designer Jasper Conran. But he has just paid £1.25 million through FPDSavills for a weekend retreat near Framlingham in Suffolk. Felmings Hall, which dates from the 12th century, was once owned by that great British eccentric, stage photographer Angus McBean. "Jasper won't be deserting London completely," says a Conran aide. "He will keep his home in Lancaster Gate in Bayswater."

One luxury still eludes billionairess Lily Safra, the new doyenne of London society hostesses - a garden. Last year she spent a record £23 million buying a six-storey Belgravia mansion off Eaton Square. But the Surrey-born widow of Monaco banker Edmond Safra was apparently unaware that its only outside space was a large roof terrace. "Lily approached her next-door neighbours and offered to buy their flat, which has a beautiful garden," reports a friend. "But the offer was refused, even though it was way above the market price."

Actress Jane Fonda and media tycoon Ted Turner owned No 1 Tilney Street during their marriage in the Nineties. Now this four-bedroom, two-reception room Mayfair town house is for rent at £3,500 a week. "It's suitably grand with its own garage, lift and servants' quarters," says agent Wetherell. Turner, founder of CNN, is known as Captain Outrageous because of his habit of attending business meetings wearing a Confederate officer's uniform complete with sword.

George Street in Marylebone is the hot new address this summer with Viscount Linley buying a £2.5 million house and Madonna finally moving into her £7 million house in neighbouring Great Cumberland Place. If you fancy hobnobbing with "royalty" you can buy a seventh-floor, two-bedroom flat in a Sixties block on George Street for £675,000. "It has two balconies, 24-hour porterage and underground parking is available," says the agent, Chestertons.
