Monday Morning

Director Otar Iosseliani gives us a world where the women are all hard-headed realists and the men invariably dewy-eyed fantasists, intent on escaping the boredom of a relentless weekly cycle.

Jacques Bidou walks out on his wife and family and heads for Venice, where he links up with a fellow renegade; Iosseliani intercuts this adventure with scenes of the struggling family back home, but instead of disapproval he opts for gentle humour: Bidou's antics are too entertaining to take seriously.

The film's too long, and founders occasionally, but it's a light-hearted look at boredom and its antidotes. No extras.
