Keep on Faking It

In her earlier novel, Welcome To Temptation, Jenny Crusie proved herself capable of that most tricky of feats: writing a sexy and witty romantic novel, peopled with genuinely interesting characters. The good news is that she's managed to do it again.

The plot is pretty lightweight stuff, but provides the basis for a hefty dose of screwball humour. Tilda Goodnight is a successful mural painter with a shady past as a forger that she's keen to keep under wraps.

She's hindered in this aim, however, by her family, a bunch of lovable - if helpless - eccentrics with an eclectic mix of foibles.

Secretly, she yearns for 'one of those old-fashioned guys who rescued women and stole things for them' (in this case, a number of her forged paintings which have made an untimely reappearance) and when she encounters charming conman Davy Dempster, it seems as though all her prayers have been answered.

Needless to say, nothing is as straightforward as it seems, and no one is exactly who they claim to be - including Tilda herself.
