Telephone Medical Advice:
NHS Direct is a 24-hour telephone line open for advice on all medical subjects from health professionals. This is brilliant if you?ve a minor problem and don?t have the time or organisation to go to the Doctors.

Contraception:
Call 020 7837 4044 for your nearest family planning clinic for contraception. Otherwise go to Boot's - a chain pharmacy (you?ll find one in any main shopping area) - which sells most contraception, including the morning after pill (call the branch first to check). There?s a large Boot's store on Oxford Street.

Dental Emergencies:
The Dental Emergency Care Service will refer you to a surgery that is open to treat your teeth. It may cost though!

Seeing a Doctor:
You will hear Doctors referred to as G.Ps in London. GPs, 'General Practitioners,' are so named because they have general medical knowledge and are the first port of call when ill.

Going to hospital:
Here?s three hospitals in Central London that have 24-hour accident and emergency departments. Before you decide to go, make sure it is absolutely necessary as queues are long. Going can often be more traumatic then staying where you are ? remember in the evenings there are drunks and druggies and it can often be an aggressive, chaotic environment.
