Gothic worlds collide

Though presented as three separate exhibitions, these three artists share a common sensibility: each has an interest in the Gothic and the romantic imagination, though this is expressed differently in each case.

Downstairs there are paintings by British artist David Harrison. These are odd little pictures of twee landscapes and fairytale worlds populated by weird creatures and spectral forms, which derive some of their flavour from Victorian erotic illustration and melodrama.

In The Moon And The Dangly, a contemporary lounge becomes the setting for a Victorian ghost orgy, where the saucy figures, surrounded by cupids, are faintly outlined in spectral white paint. Elsewhere, you'll find skulls, skeletal figures, hybrid creatures and circus themes.

In the gallery's project space are New York-based artist Christian Holstad's faint pencil drawings on newspaper clippings.

He has partially rubbed out the newsprint images, so that eyes and gaping mouths hover spectre-like in a faintly delineated face and people are strangely disfigured, with limbs extruding from weird places where Holstad has pencilled in some detail. Unlike Harrison's overwrought imagery, these are often quite effective and quietly unsettling.

As well as the drawings, Holstad has made a soft, snake-like sculpture which coils around the floor. From this snaking piece extends - as if the figure within has been vaporised - a black overcoat and gloved hand clutching at a set of microphones, mirroring one of the images to be found on the wall. This overly theatrical Gothic touch adds nothing to the display. Finally, upstairs, we have paintings by Miami-based artist Hernan Bas.

The paintings have a nice febrile, overworked quality fitting to the faintly decadent, homoerotic subject matter: louche and beautiful boys stripping, stretching and displaying their pallid, lithe bodies against a lush backdrop of trees and overgrowth.
