Fatboy on the beach

Fatboy Slim's Brighton Beach gig back in July is largely remembered for the bad things that happened (namely the mess and the crush, a result of more than 200,000 people attending) so it was a pleasure to sit back and watch Big Beach Boutique II: The Movie.

Big Beach is a compelling snapshot of one of the biggest recent events in British music, including breathtaking footage from above and out at sea, giving a whole new perspective on the magnitude of that day. The menu bar on the DVD is one of the best I've seen, with a telescope as your index set in front of the bouncing beach crowds.

The DVD includes a revealing interview with Norman Cook, plus footage from his World Cup diary, due to be screened on the BBC next year. The track selection area is cleverly designed so you can cut to the highlight of the day, when Norman dropped 'Pure Shores' by All Saints as his last record. An inspired moment on an inspired product.
