Everybody Hertz

This is the sort of understated exhibition that seems well accommodated by the austerely elegant Georgian interior of the Frith Street Gallery. Though this is not to dismiss this show out of hand, it can certainly make you wish for a little more oomph.

Of the four female film and video artists here, most disappointing is Anna Barribal. Her five-minute film simply shows her at a window as sunlight bounces off her sequinned T-shirt and reflects coloured points of light on to a wall. You might briefly marvel at this everyday phenomenon at home, but Barribal really doesn't use film well enough to make this the sort of visually appealing reverie it wants to be.

Chamber music breezes through the rooms of the gallery from Chantal Akerman's 36-minute film portrait of cellist Sonia Wieder-Atherton. Beautifully lit, the film's most absorbing moments are the close-ups of the cellist's face.

Tacita Dean is another artist who uses film evocatively. Though her Madagascan sunset is not particularly compelling as subject matter, the silent, grainy projection contains a certain strangeness.

Finally, Annelies Strba shows digitally manipulated photographs of young women ablaze with colour. Strba gained notoriety last year with a photograph of her 12-year-old daughter in the bath at Rhodes + Mann gallery. No such unintentional frisson here, though the images are pretty enough.
