A third of sellers overcrowd their living rooms with furniture, resulting in an estimated loss of £2,000 a property.
The drop in value for each 'design crime' was calculated by comparing the before and after price of homes where such features had been present and then removed.
The programme found the total amount lost by the British public every year is an astonishing £10billion.
A spokesman for the programme said: 'We've checked this figure with a number of independent experts in the house-selling industry who believe this is a conservative figure.'
