Claims that X-Men: Days of Future Past director sexually abused a teenager 15 years ago have been called an “obvious attempt to get publicity” by the filmmaker’s lawyer.
Marty Singer, a lawyer for the director, said the suit, which was filed in Hawaii yesterday, was “absurd and defamatory”.
Singer, who directed Valkyrie and Superman Returns, is accused of first preying on Michael F. Egan, now 31, at a Californian house party in the late 1990s.
The attorney for the alleged victim claims the filmmaker promised his client, an aspiring actor, a role in a movie and they had "numerous" sexual encounters when he was 15 and 16, and they took multiple trips to Hawaii when he was 17.
Egan is seeking damages in excess of $75,000 (£45,000) for "catastrophic psychological and emotional injuries" but the director’s lawyer has called it an "obvious attempt to get publicity."
He said in a statement: "The claims made against Bryan Singer are completely without merit. We are very confident that Bryan will be vindicated in this absurd and defamatory lawsuit."
