Of tyrants and vagabonds, presidents and postal clerks, girlfriends and gangsters; on deserts, in cities, down streets, by rivers; as ballads, broadsides, lilts, lullabies, rock and pop and blues and country, Dylan's thousand-odd songs surge in and out of memory.
