Benedict Cumberbatch joins wife Sophie Hunter for Letters Live
Benedict Cumberbatch and his wife Sophie Hunter were among the stars who took to the stage for the Letters Live series in Covent Garden.
They were joined over the weekend by the likes of Sir Ian McKellen, Carey Mulligan and Jude Law, who all performed at Freemasons’ Hall.
Cumberbatch, 39, channelled former Sherlock Holmes actor William Gillette as he read out a letter from Mark Twain to Walt Whitman.
On Saturday Mulligan performed the words of Suffragette Bertha Brewster and a Syrian refugee, Hassan, brought the audience to tears with his open letter to Europe.
Law, who also read a letter on Saturday, visited the Calais refugee camp, the Jungle, last month to see the conditions for himself.
A film of the trip was made by Adam Ackland who, along with Cumberbatch, runs film company Sunny March.
On Sunday Star Wars actor Oscar Isaac read out a letter from Sir Alec Guinness which detailed the actor's true feelings about playing Obi Wan Kenobi.
Letters Live runs until tomorrow
