A real urban trend

With all the style mags' talk of urban tribes, it's good to be reminded that there are collectives of people who remain true to the definition, not just united by a love of Adidas. Scottish photographer Colin Prior continues ten years of documenting the world's last wild places with Living Tribes, recording the surviving ways of life of 15 ethnic groups that have resisted globalisation while integrating new practices.

From the revival of Padaung metal neck rings for tourists to the promotion of organic farming among the Ladakhi, Prior's unpatronising portraits, accompanied by text from Carolyn Fry (editor of the Royal Geographical Society's magazine) reveal the modern as well as the traditional.
