New Puritan standardbearer Toby Litt's second collection of modish short stories (note that finger-on-the-pulse lower-case title) is a mixed bag. Unhaunted, a tale of lesbian stalkers and losing your marbles, is first rate, as is Map Making for the Middle Classes - a fun, dinner-party-from-hell sort of affair in which Litt's enthusiasm for narrative gimmickry doesn't smother his plot.
