B-Right-On!

At the heart of Brighton's bid for the European City Of Culture 2008 is this year's Brighton Festival, now in its 36th year.

A refurbished Brighton Dome provides a new central venue, and the programme includes a host of new commissions.

Daily events will include dance, cutting-edge theatre, opera, pop, world and classical music, literature and photography and - for the first time - a series of events for children and young people.

Activity is concentrated over the four themed Big Weekends - Family Fun, including a children's parade, a family ceilidh and a kids' cocktail bar; Streets Of Brighton, with pyrotechnics, street entertainers and comedy, the Brighton Circus Festival and the Carnival, with a focus on Brazil and the samba.

Well worth the train journey.
