Beckhams' delight at third son

David Beckham has achieved a new hat-trick - he and his wife Victoria have had a third son, named Cruz.

The latest addition to the Beckham family was born in Madrid at 9.40am yesterday, weighing 7lb 2oz (3kg).

Both mother and child were described as 'in perfect health' following a planned Caesarean section at the Ruber International Hospital.

Beckham, who played for Real Madrid in their 2-0 defeat against Athletico Bilbao on Saturday, looked happy outside the hospital.

He said: 'I have two beautiful sons already and now I have another beautiful son called Cruz. He's gorgeous, healthy and his mum is very good. We're a very happy family. He's got Victoria's lips and nose.' Hospital spokesman Dr Vidal Pelaez added: 'Medical intervention lasted 30 minutes. Mother and child are in perfect health.'

William Hill said the nearest anyone got to guessing the boy's name was Santa. The bookmakers have also offered odds of 100-1 that Cruz will one day play first-team football for England.

In April last year, Beckham was forced to deny an affair with 26-year-old PA Rebecca Loos. He branded the claims 'ludicrous'.
