TalkSPORT host Alan Brazil has revealed he has undergone a life-saving operation.

The 66-year-old former Ipswich Town, Spurs and Scotland star issued the update on his social media platforms after a period away from his usual slot on the Breakfast Show.

The statement read: "Hi Guys, I hope everyone's well.

"Some of you will have noticed that I've not been around.

"I recently had a life-saving operation and I'm deeply grateful to the brilliant medical team who have looked after me.

"It will be some time yet before I'm fully back to myself and for now I am focused on my recovery in private,

"Thank you to my family and those close to me who've been supporting me/putting up with me!"

He signed off the message with: "I'll see you all soon AL", with a bulging bicep emoji.

Brazil has been a pillar of the radio channel since its launch in 2000.

He was forced to take a two-week absence from talkSPORT in February due to an ear infection.

On his return to the show, viewers remarked on what appeared to be a noticeable weight loss.

One viewer wrote: "He looks like he's lost loads of weight. Hope he's OK." Another added: "Brazil is losing a lot of weight, he might have to change his name to Alan Paraguay."

Brazil also had to miss presenting duties at Cheltenham Festival in March.
