James Knappett’s restaurant was awarded its second Michelin star during the ceremony at Waterloo’s BFI IMAX on October 1.

The counter-dining spot previously won its first star just a year after opening, in the 2015 Michelin Guide.

Sandia Chang, who founded the restaurant with husband Knappett, told the Standard: "You never expect it — it's a bit surreal. We want to do better, we want to get more and do it [get three stars].

"Michelin has always been a very respectable guide so as young people that's what we've wanted — what we've based our career on."

Kitchen Table, which specialises in small European dishes, is located at the back of Bubbledogs in Fitzrovia, through a hidden entrance.

Two London restaurants picked up two stars for the first time this year; Kitchen Table and Core by Clare Smyth. Six new London restaurants also picked up one star for the first time.

However, it was a quiet year for new additions, with some of the capital’s favourite restaurants not making it onto the list, including Kiln, Indian Accent, Clipstone and Frog by Adam Handling.
