Video of US police officer crying over McMuffin divides internet

A video of a US police officer crying over her McDonald’s breakfast has gone viral on social media.

In the video, Stacey, who has been a police officer for 15 years, cries as she describes feeling anxious as she waited a long time for her order at the McDonald’s in Richmond Hill, on the outskirts of Savannah, Georgia.

“I waited in line to get my food – I had already done my mobile order so that people don’t pay for my stuff because I just always like to pay for it myself,” she says.

“I’m on my way home from work, when I pull up to the window they hand me my receipt, so I go to the second window to get my food and I’m waiting, and I’m waiting, and I’m waiting. “And so the girl comes to the window and asks me what my order was, and I repeat my order my coffee order and they ask me to pull up – because my food’s not ready.”

Stacey says she waited a while for her order of an English muffin with a hash brown and coffee, before a McDonalds staff member came up to her car with just the coffee.

“I said, ‘Don’t bother with the food because right now – I’m too nervous to take it. It doesn’t matter how many hours I’ve been up, it doesn’t matter what I’ve done for anyone right now – I’m too nervous to take a meal from McDonalds, because I can’t see it being made.

“I don’t know what’s going on with people nowadays, but please just give us a break,” Stacey said, in an apparent reference to the recent Black Lives Matter protests against police racism and brutality following the killing of George Floyd last month by a Minneapolis police officer.

“Please just give us a break – I don’t know how much more I can take. I’ve been in this for 15 years, and I’ve never ever had such anxiety about waiting for McDonalds drive-through food.

“So just have a heart, and if you see an officer just tell them ‘thank you’ – because I don’t hear ‘thank you’ enough anymore.”

The owners of the franchise, Gary and Jill Stanberry, said in a statement: "Our priority is for all customers to feel welcome and enjoy a great customer experience in our family-owned restaurants, including local law enforcement officers who protect and serve our community.

"Unfortunately, we were made aware of a local police officer who experienced a longer than usual wait time and did not receive her full order right away at one of our restaurants. We have been in contact with this officer to apologize for this unsatisfactory experience and let her know that we would love to correct the inaccurate order when she has time. We are happy to report that the officer was never denied service and also shared positive feedback on the employee with whom she interacted.
