Singapore Airlines flight engulfed by flames as engine 'explodes' after emergency landing

A Singapore Airlines plane carrying 241 people was engulfed by flames seconds after it made an emergency landing.

Dramatic footage has emerged of the aircraft ablaze while grounded at Changi airport after the right engine “exploded” before it caught fire.

Black smoke is seen billowing up from the runway while pictures of the aftermath show a wing charred by fire damage.

Flight SQ368 was en route to Milan when it turned back to Singapore two hours after take-off following an engine warning message.

No one was injured on board the Boeing 777-300ER but passengers faced an agonising wait to leave the plane after the blaze broke out.

Flyer Lee Bee Yee wrote on Facebook: “It was a heart wrenching 5 mins! Waiting for the fire engine and fire fighters to put out the fire! They shot foam and water into the fire and eventually it was put out! We were so close to death!!”

Mamta Jain, whose husband was on the flight, told Channel News Asia the plane’s engine “exploded”.

She said: “The pilot announced during the flight there was a problem with one of the engines that they would turn back.
