A tweet that reported the death of Hollywood actor and director Robert Redford has been described as a “sick hoax” by the star’s publicist.
Tributes for the 79-year-old on flooded in to Twitter on Thursday when a fake news feed posted Mr Redford had died after falling off a golf buggy in Santa Monica, California.
The account where the post appeared, Sky Breaking News, has previously tweeted the deaths of other celebrities that have been untrue.
Mr Redford’s publicist Cindi Berger said "This is a sick hoax. I just spoke to him and there is no truth to this whatsoever."
Mr Redford is well known for his roles in hit films All the President's Men and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.
His company also founded the Sundance Film Festival in Utah.
