Twitch viewers who had been watching the stream quickly called police, reporting the assault had taken place next to the Sweeny Memorial Bench pokestop.
Rickeybot, whose real name is Rickey Yaneza, reported the assault to police at 12.19am on Monday.
He tweeted: “I got mugged playing Pokemon GO in Central Park. Still talking to police and will go to hospital soon. My jaw is a mess. Thanks all.”
Am NYPD spokesman told computing website ARS that Mr Yaneza was holding three smartphones at the time, all of which had been reported stolen.
The spokesman added that Mr Yaneza had refused medical attention at the scene and was suffering from small lacerations on the side of his head and a swollen cheek.
An investigation into the assault is underway and there have been no arrests.
Rickeybot spent the majority of last week live streaming Pokemon GO from Cental Park, advertising where he would be on Twitter.
