Mr Modise said he “did not know” about the threats.
At the high court in Pretoria the double amputee is being sentenced for the manslaughter of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, 29.
He shot her four times through a locked lavatory door at their Preoria home on Valentine’s Day last year. Lawyers are arguing what his sentence should be, with a debate in court about the suitability of South Africa’s prison system to accommodate disabled people.
Today Ms Steenkamp’s family said he should “pay for what he has done” and be sent to jail.
Her cousin Kim Martin told the court she was “very fearful” of Pistorius, adding: “My family are not people who are seeking revenge.
“We just feel to take someone’s life, to shoot somebody behind a door that is unarmed, that is harmless, needs sufficient punishment. I really believe the accused, Mr Pistorius, needs to pay for what he’s done, for taking Reeva’s life.”
