Luis Suarez's weakness? Pastries, according to his younger brother

Luis Suarez's younger brother has identified the star striker’s weakness — but sadly for England it’s a fondness for pastries, not a footballing flaw.

The Suarez family run a bakery in Uruguay’s capital Montevideo which serves up traditional petiscos, South American pastries similar to croissants, and knotted snacks called codito.

The Liverpool player’s brother Maxi, 26, who works in the shop, revealed the star is happy in England but misses his favourite snack so much that he stocks up on his visits home. He said at the bakery called Tres Magos, which translates as Three Wizards: “Luis has a privacy in England he doesn’t have here. Lots of people come into the bakery asking about him.

“But England doesn’t have these kinds of petiscos, so when he comes here he takes everything.” Maxi also revealed that when they played together as children his brother was not always the refined footballer he is today.

“Luis wasn’t as good as he is now,” he said. “His football was more coarse — but he’d score anyway.”
