Killer who boasted on Facebook guns down classmate in canteen

A teenage killer who went on a gun rampage at his high school left a note on his Facebook page saying: "Die, all of you."

TJ Lane opened fire on his classmates, killing one and wounding four as they sat in the canteen at a school in Cleveland, Ohio, yesterday.
Today Robert Farinacci, a lawyer for the 17-year-old's family, said Lane was distraught and remorseful.

Students who saw the attack said Lane had targeted a group of teenagers, including Russell King Jr who had started dating the boy's ex-girlfriend.

The note on Facebook read: "Now! Feel death, not just mocking you. Not just stalking you but inside of you. Wriggle and writhe. Feel smaller beneath my might. Seizure in the Pestilence that is my scythe. Die, all of you."

The night before the attack Lane also tweeted that he was going to bring a gun to school the next day - but no one took the threat seriously.
Lane carried out the shootings in complete silence, only stopping when he was chased from the canteen by a teacher.

Danny Komertz, 15, who witnessed the shooting, said Lane was an outcast who had been bullied.
"I looked up and this kid was pointing a gun about 10 feet away from me to a group of four kids sitting at a table," he said. He fired two shots quickly and students scrambled for safety.

One of them was "trying to get underneath the table, trying to hide, protecting his face".
Tyler Lillash, 16, said Lane was not bullied: "Even though he was quiet, he still had friends."
The dead student, Daniel Parmertor, was an aspiring computer repairer who was waiting in the canteen for his daily 15-minute bus ride to a vocational school.

Mr Farinacci said: "The family wanted me to convey to the citizens of Geauga County and north-eastern Ohio that the family is devastated by this most recent event.

"This is something that could never have been predicted. T J's family has asked for some privacy." The FBI refused to speculate on a motive.

A massacre at Virginia Tech University left 33 people dead in 2007. The worst high school shooting was at Columbine in Colorado. Twelve students and a teacher were killed in 1999.
