Arachnophobes look away now – is this the largest spider ever photographed?

This picture of a huge huntsman spider was posted on Reddit under the caption “Meanwhile in Australia” after a homeowner spotted it lurking outside their property.

Complete with a chunky body, thick legs and long hairs visible, the terrifying image has been viewed more than 20,000 times in just 24 hours.

Many Reddit users were left horrified by the creepy-crawly, with one posting: “Please tell me that’s a fake spider someone made out of pipe cleaners as a prank.”

One users doubted whether it was in fact a huntsman due to the size of its legs, to which one jovial poster responded: “It didn’t skip leg day.”

But others said the spider was a typical find in Australia and explained it was not venomous and therefore would cause no harm.

Another user joked that maybe the home owner should pack up and leave because the size of the spider.

They posted: “So it’s now time to take your prized possessions and leave the house. Your home now belongs to the spider.

“If you stay, this spider has now become your new overlord.”
