Huge fibreglass mango sculpture stolen from Australian town

A seven-tonne giant mango has been stolen in Australia.

The 10m-tall fibreglass fruit, which has attracted tourists to the town of Bowen in north Queensland since 2002, was unbolted and prised from its concrete platform overnight.

CCTV shows a crane being driven towards the site at about 2am.

The Big Mango was erected in honour of Bowen’s key crop.

Local tourism chairman Paul McLaughlin said: “We think it will turn up. It’s not the sort of thing that’s easily hidden. At this stage  we’re taking a soft approach and making our own inquiries.”
