Earth Hour: Patrick Cox launches Do The Green Thing's poster campaign

Other designers taking part include Tom Uglow, a creative director at Google, and Dan Germain, creative director at Innocent.

The posters are aimed at encouraging people to take simple green actions, such as walking to school, eating less meat and switching off lights.

Do The Green Thing co-founder Naresh Ramchandani said: “Creativity is a powerful tool, able to inspire, seduce, provoke and persuade people to do things that they otherwise would not have considered.

“We’re applying one of the most powerful tools we know to the biggest problem we’ve got.”

Earth Hour is a global campaign which encourages people to switch off their lights for an hour from 8.30pm on March 23. It began in Sydney, Australia, in 2007 and has grown to include participation from 7,000 cities and towns throughout the world. Lights have been shut down on such iconic landmarks as the Golden Gate Bridge, Empire State Building and the Eiffel Tower.

Cox added: “I’ve always loved Do The Green Thing’s ability to stay away from the earnest do-goodery of the green movement. They know a dig, joke or nudge is way more effective than another photo of a polar bear.”

The posters are being released on the charity’s website dothegreenthing.com and via social media.

Fans will have a chance to buy one of 23 limited edition prints of each poster, with all proceeds going to the charity.
