Sesay today said he and fellow athletes from his country were terrified to return home and hoped to stay in the UK until their visas have expired. Sierra Leone has declared a public health emergency.
“All of us are scared about going back,” said Sesay. “We have a three-month visa in our passports and if I have the opportunity I will stay here until mine ends.
“It is scary over there. My mother is a medical nurse so she may have to treat people. My wife is also doing work in the medical field.”
A Commonwealth Games spokeswoman said: “There is no Ebola in the athletes’ village of the Glasgow Games.
“We can confirm that an athlete was tested for a number of things when he became ill last week, including for Ebola.
“These tests were negative and the athlete competed in his event on Thursday.”
