Whistleblower site to fight animal cruelty

Animal-lover Ms Mumford, from Hampstead, who has starred in Porichoi, Speed Date and Keep The Fire, was inspired by Julian Assange’s whistleblowing website WikiLeaks. She is now raising funds to develop her website and to become a registered charity.

Ms Mumford, a keen horse rider, said she had been shocked to hear of “puppies being buried alive”, “cats being put in microwaves” and “dogs being beaten to death with baseball bats”.

Her idea has been backed by the RSPCA, which receives a call every 30 seconds to report animal cruelty. She said: “The British are a nation of animal-lovers, but the big problem is apathy. I want to encourage more people to report what they see. Some people are scared so I hope this service will help solve that.”

Ms Mumford has turned to crowdfunding website Indiegogo to help raise the £5,000 needed to gain charity status. She has also had support from partner and software developer Joseph Yeo.
