Video-blogger Zoella says success is down to 'being normal'

Video-blogger Zoella, whose teenage lifestyle posts have been watched by almost 300 million fans, has put her success down to “being a normal person.”

The 24-year-old “vlogger”, whose real name is Zoe Sugg, has over 6 million subscribers to her YouTube channel where she posts videos about shopping, make-up and fashion to her fan-base of mainly teenage girls. Collectively, her videos have been viewed over 290 million times.

Zoella, originally from Lacock, Wiltshire, but who now lives in Brighton with her boyfriend and fellow “vlogger” Alfie Deyes, is now the face of a Google television advert and has signed a two-book deal with Penguin. She also works with L’Oreal, Topshop and has launched own make-up range in Superdrug.

Advertising on her “vlog” alone reportedly earns the internet star up to £20,000 a month.

She told the Times she appeals to teenage girls because she is “just a normal person” - adding: “It’s not like when you’re an actress and you’re one person on screen and off set you’re another person. I’m me.”

The internet star said her videos “help” young people, adding: “I guess they just like watching my videos and I help them in some way. I have a lot of people who say I have changed their lives and I make them really happy.”
