'Carry on talking amongst yourselves': Victoria Derbyshire walks off BBC show to take small boy to the loo

Presenter Victoria Derbyshire walked off set in the middle of her BBC show today so she could take a young boy to the toilet.

The anchor asked her guests to cover for her - telling them to "carry on talking amongst yourselves" - before escorting six-year-old Kai away from the cameras.

She had been interviewing parents about today's protest over Sats tests when the youngster started shuffling in his chair.

She turned to him and asked: "You alright Kai? What's the matter darling? Do you need to go to the loo?"

The six-year-old quietly whispered that he was feeling hot, before the presenter surprised viewers by getting out of her seat and walking him off set.

Viewers were quick to heap praise on the presenter, who disappeared for about a minute before returning to resume the discussion.

Thousands of parents today chose to take their children out of school as they boycotted the Year 2 exams for six- and seven-year-olds, saying the tests are causing unnecessary stress.
