UK coronavirus death toll in hospitals rises by 11

Patients were aged between 50 and 97 years old and all had known underlying health conditions.

One further death was reported with no positive Covid-19 test result.

One further person died in Wales after testing positive for Covid-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 1,548, public health officials said.

There have been another 22 cases reported bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 16,987, Public Health Wales said.

Another nine people have tested positive for Covid-19 in Northern Ireland, the Department of Health said.

There were no new deaths. The toll remains at 556.

In Scoltand, no deaths of people who tested positive for the virus were recorded for the sixth consecutive day, meaning the toll remains at 2,941.

The country has also recorded 10 new confirmed cases of coronavirus in a day, Nicola Sturgeon announced.

Speaking at the Scottish Government’s coronavirus briefing, she said 18,484 people have tested positive for Covid-19 north of the border.

She added provisional figures indicate three of the 10 new cases are in Lanarkshire and one of these is linked to the outbreak at the Sitel call centre in the region.

There were 295 people in hospital with confirmed Covid-19 in hospital, down eight in 24 hours.

Of these, three were in intensive care, down one from the previous day.
