Twenty-six children found after going missing in the Brecon Beacons

A group of schoolchildren has been found after they went missing in the Brecon Beacons in atrocious weather conditions.

The 26 teenagers disappeared in low cloud and torrential rain - prompting a major search operation near the Tafarn Y Garreg pub, Abercraf, Powys.

At about 1pm the alarm was raised and saw three mountain rescue teams and police deployed.

The search came as south west Wales was hit by heavy rainfall on Wednesday afternoon.

Andrew Evans, of Western Beacons Mountain Search and Rescue team, said the incident was not uncommon with groups doing their Duke of Edinburgh award.

He said: "We located them and brought them all safely back.

"There were 26 of them in total and they are from the St Albans area.

“They have been taken to the nearby town of Ystradgynlais where they were staying.

“They've all been checked out by medics as precaution and we've been assured that they are all safe and okay."
