Terry Pratchett’s daughter gets cinema proposal

Discworld fantasy writer Terry Pratchett’s daughter Rhianna was “totally shocked” when she got a marriage proposal at her favourite London cinema - in front of the entire audience.

Miss Pratchett, 36, who is also a writer, thought she was going to the Screen on the Green in Islington to watch The Blues Brothers to celebrate her boyfriend Louis Leigh’s 35th birthday. But she was confused when before the film a video started playing about her life.

At the end of the video, specially created by Mr Leigh with the help of two friends — comic illustrator Naniibim and composer Michael Kruk — the curtains closed, the lights came up and in front of a hushed cinema audience Mr Leigh went down on one knee and proposed. He told Rhianna: “I love you and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?”

Miss Pratchett, from Canonbury, said yes.

Mr Leigh, from Holloway, and Miss Pratchett are avid cinema-goers and had their first date at the venue. They will wed next year.
