An enterprising squirrel drank from a carton of Capri-Sun to keep cool in hot weather - as further heat was predicted.
A field of sunflowers also added to the summery vibe at Potters Fields Park on the South Bank by Tower Bridge, to mark the return of margarine brand Flora’s traditional sunflower logo.
This week’s hot weather is set to peak tomorrow with temperatures likely to reach 30C. And while the capital will see unsettled conditions by the end of the week, forecasters said the sizzling weather could return.
James Wilby, a forecaster for MeteoGroup, the weather division for the Press Association, said: “It’s too early to say if this will be last of the hot weather this summer, as there’s a chance we could get another wave of hot weather this month. But the closer we get to autumn the less chance there is.”
The end of the week will see some rain and cool temperatures over London, while other parts of the UK will see some heavy downpours.
The south-east of England has seen its driest summer since 1995 and across the country rainfall has been about 78 per cent of average.
Mean UK temperatures this summer hit 15.2C (59F), which is 0.8C above average and August 1 was the hottest day for seven years. Temperatures reached 33.7C (92.6F) at Heathrow.
