RAF helicopter makes crash landing in Snowdonia

An RAF helicopter has made a crash landing in Snowdonia.

Emergency services have rushed to the scene on in the Yr Aran area of the national park.

An air ambulance has been sent to Watkin Path, Llanberis, along with firefighters, police and mountain rescue teams from Llanberis, Ogwen Valley and Aberglaslyn.

No casualties have currently been reported from the peak.

Walkers have reported seeing flames upto 10ft high.

A Ministry of Defence spokesman said the incident involved a training helicopter and everyone on board was accounted for.

He said: "A Griffin training helicopter safely completed a precautionary landing in Snowdonia this afternoon following a technical issue.

"All four people on board exited safely. Subsequently the aircraft caught fire. Emergency services are on the scene."

An air exclusion zone has been put in place.

Yr Aran is a mountain peak on a ridge south of Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales.
