Safe & the City works by providing its users with a real time map of London detailing areas where women or men have experienced harassment.
It has a detailed key for "assault", "catcalling", "commenting", "groping", "indecent exposure", "stalking", "taking pictures" and "other".
People can report harassment using the app

People who use the app are able to anonymously report if they have experienced harassment and then the map is updated for other people to see.
Safe & the City trusts that all reported incidents are genuine.
If a person does find themselves in a dangerous situation, the app has the option to alert the police.
The app allows people to "call for help" if they feel they are in danger

Safe & the City said it worked with the Metropolitan Police to include areas with an historic high risk of crime in the app.
Ms Kowalchuk said:“This information allows you to see where you should avoid or be more alert.”
She said she hopes that the app will not only help individuals but that it would encourage businesses to take harassment more seriously.
“If someone reports an incident of sexual harassment at a business then uses the app to report it then people will begin to avoid that place,” she said.
"This will allow businesses to become aware of incidents which occur in their establishment."
Safe & the City will initially launch in London on March 8, but Ms Kowalchuk said that if it is successful she hopes to expand it across the country.
