Miss Miles added it is common to send insects in the post and the incident was an “unlucky situation” that resulted in the spider not being collected by its intended owners.
The species can grow to have a leg span of 28cm, have 2.5cm fangs and can kick hair from their body as a defence mechanism, which can cause blindness to humans.
The spider, named Sid, has been taken to North Somerset Reptile Rescue to recover and it is hoped it will soon have a new owner.
