Madonna was sent away from a court in Manhattan on July 7 when she showed up for jury duty. After previously dodging a summons by providing a doctor’s note on May 27 and subsequently posting pictures of her family on holiday, the singer turned up only to be excused on the terms that there were ‘ample jurors’.

Madonna arrived at 60 Centre Street surrounded by her entourage which included two male bodyguards and two female assistants. She arrived 30 minutes late for the 10 am schedule and emerged from the court an hour and a half later.

"I'm proud to do my job," she said however refused to answer questions regarding special treatment.

Spokesman David Bookstaver of the Unified Court System told the Daily News: "We had ample jurors today and had we needed her, she would have been sent out on a panel…we had sufficient jurors not to have created a further distraction for the courthouse."

He stated: “The greater good here is that her appearance really goes to show that everyone gets called… she got credit for her service and we're delighted she came."

The Vogue singer proved that she maintains her star-power as a group had gathered outside the courthouse and one onlooker exclaimed “That's Madonna!" while another commented, "she looks so thin, right?"

Madonna can expect another call for jury service in New York in another six years which means that she’s off the hook.
