The King found time to party as his state visit to the US drew to an end and even brought some coronation quiche and Victoria sponge with him.

The block party in Front Royal, Virginia, saw residents taking part in a pot luck with guests bringing surprise ingredients and Charles and Camilla relied on some old royal favourites prepared at the UK embassy to win over the locals.

The event was a relaxed ending to a visit which, although formal, has produced moments of humour at a time when US-UK relations were becoming strained.
