Police were today attempting to capture a crafty kangaroo which went on the loose in Gloucestershire.

The Australian marsupial, dubbed 'Skippy' by police, was spotted in the Dursley area of Gloucestershire on Saturday night.

Officers have appealed for its owner to come forward as they continued their efforts to capture it today.

A group of wallabies is kept at Woodchester - about eight miles from Dursley - and some have been seen bouncing around the village over the past five years.

On its Facebook page, Gloucestershire Police posted: "Bit of an unusual one. If anyone has lost a kangaroo in the Dursley area please contact us on 101 and quote incident 462. We have found one!"

Local resident Rich Gillingham replied: "That was one of the most bizarre evenings of my life.

"Just serving up supper and two coppers walk into our kitchen and ask if they can search our back garden for a kangaroo. Still can't quite believe."
