Petitions set up on parliament.uk will trigger a Commons debate should they attain 100,000 signatures. Segways were introduced in 2001 but the new hands-free version has rocketed in popularity this year.
The MPS Specials tweet that sparked the outcry has been shared more than 2,000 times. Other tweets from the same account yesterday, including stories about drugs and knives being seized, failed to ignite the same level of response.
