Farmer gored to death by stag

A man has died five days after undergoing emergency open air surgery at his farm after being savaged by a stag.

Kenneth Price, 75, was gored by the antlers of a stag and suffered multiple injuries at his farm in Saron, Llandysul, mid Wales, last Wednesday morning.

An air ambulance crew carried out emergency surgery on him at the scene before he was airlifted to hospital in Swansea where he died yesterday.

Mr Price, a lifelong sheep farmer, is understood to have begun raising deer as part of a diversification into venison several years ago.

"We were called at 8.59am on Wednesday, October 30, to reports a man had been attacked by a stag in Saron, Llandysul," a Welsh Ambulance Service spokesman said.

"We sent an emergency ambulance and the Helimed helicopter to the scene, and a man in his 70s with multiple serious injuries was airlifted to Morriston Hospital in Swansea."

A Wales Air Ambulance spokesman confirmed that a crew had arrived at the scene at 9.30am after receiving a report of the incident.

The crew had carried out emergency surgery on the farmer soon after they arrived before airlifting him to hospital where they arrived at 10:50am.

October and early November is traditionally the rutting or breeding season when stags lock antlers to compete for mating rights with females.
