Enormous wasps' nest uncovered by London pest controllers in empty loft

London pest controllers were left stunned after they uncovered an enormous wasps’ nest inside an empty attic during renovation work.

Up to 10,000 wasps were discovered by north London firm Pest Professionals in the loft of a vacant property in Pipewell, Northamptonshire.

The massive colony was found as the firm were called to treat a woodworm problem before the new owners move in.

Workers described the sight of the wasps as “beautiful” as a carefully built tunnel was built to access outside the house.

Pest controller Gary Wilkinson, who found the nest, said: “It's an impressive wasp nest alright - much bigger than a barrel. Normally we get called in at the first sign of wasps causing a problem to people.

“This community has been allowed to go about its business undisturbed for a whole summer season.

“Although you wouldn't want it in your own loft, you have to say it's a very impressive and in its own way a very beautiful thing.”
