Brit who took 'selfie' with EgyptAir hijacker is blasted by his own mother

The mother of a British man who posed for a photo with the EgyptAir hijacker during a six-hour stand-off has blasted her "stupid" son.

Health and safety expert Ben Innes, 26, arrived home to his angry mother Pauline on Wednesday following the ordeal during which he asked for a photograph with suspect Seif Eldin Mustafa.

She told the Sun: “It was stupid.

Addressing her son, she added: “I don’t know why you did it. I just want us to go home.”

According to the paper, Mr Innes had texted his mother during the mid-air drama to promise he would not take risks.

But instead he walked up to the suspected hijacker, said to have been wearing a fake suicide vest, and posed for a photo which he then sent to friends.

Mr Innes was one of four Britons on board the domestic Egypt flight when it was forced to divert to Cyprus.

The aircraft’s 55 passengers were all freed after a six-hour siege at Larnaca airport.

Mr Innes described the photo as the “best selfie ever” and said: “I'm not sure why I did it, I just threw caution to the wind while trying to stay cheerful in the face of adversity.”

The Sun reported that Mr Innes now faces a grilling from his work bosses at oil and gas drilling firm TWMA.

A spokeswoman said: “We’re interested in finding out the circumstances.

“We have been in communication with Ben and his family, to support both throughout Tuesday’s events.”
