As a young Princess Elizabeth, the Queen celebrated her 21st birthday in the country and dedicated her life to serving the Commonwealth – so the area holds a special poignancy for her.
The Queen has today appointed her grandson Prince Harry as Commonwealth Youth Ambassador, where he is expected to highlight and support the work and aspirations of young people across the Commonwealth.
Kensington Palace tweeted: “HRH will work to create links between young people and youth leaders, and will encourage them to use Commonwealth platforms to address the social, economic, and environmental challenges of their generation.”
Later today, he will attend the opening of the Commonwealth Youth Forum at the Queen Elizabeth II conference centre.
