BBC loses The Voice: Reality show 'poached' by ITV after five series
Moving on: The four coaches of The Voice pictured in January, two of whom - Tom Jones and Rita Ora - are no longer with the show. The Voice is to move to ITV from its sixth series
The Voice, based on a Dutch format dreamed up by Big Brother creator John de Mol and singer Roel van Velzen, was first broadcast to British screens in 2012.
Currently hosted by Emma Willis and Marvin Humes, the reality TV show also stars Will.i.am, Ricky Wilson, Boy George and Paloma Faith as the aspiring singers’ coaches.
Claims surfaced earlier this year that the BBC was spending too much licence fee cash on competing with other broadcasters for big shows such as The Voice.
The Mirror reported on Saturday the BBC had been paying about £12 million a year to keep it, but quoted a source as saying ITV had forked out “substantially” more than that figure.
