Commuters will endure conditions that would be illegal for farmyard animals unless there is urgent investment in London’s transport infrastructure, Zac Goldsmith warned today.
The Tory mayoral hopeful said the situation facing passengers was now “critical” and would get even worse as Transport for London prepares for 330 million more journeys a year.
Almost 22,000 commuters now arrive each day in London on overcrowded train services in the morning peak, according to official figures.
Mr Goldsmith styled himself as “the champion for commuters” on a visit to Waterloo station, and said his Labour rival Sadiq Khan was the “political representative” of unions who have donated to his campaign.
