Waterloo station fire: trackside blaze sparks severe delays to train services

A trackside fire at Waterloo has caused severe disruption to trains coming into and out of the station.

All trains to and from Waterloo were stopped after a fire was reported at a nearby property.

Firefighters said they were tackling a blaze under the railway arches on Carlisle Lane, which was brought under control by 6.30pm, although crews remained in the area damping down.

A spokeswoman for the service said the fire had started in a warehouse within one floor of the multi-storey building in the arch, damaging around 15 [er cent of the 15m by 30m unit.

South West Trains said the disruption the disruption was likely to continue until at least 9pm, as all lines had been blocked for some time.

The company said the delay was being caused by queued trains between Waterloo and Clapham Junction.

A spokesman said fire services had arrived but that trains coming to and from the station face cancellations, revisions and delays of up to one hour.
