Enough is enough, say commuters hit by Tube strike

Commuters today said “enough is enough” as they spent hours battling through travel misery to get to work.

Londoners told how they left home hours earlier this morning after struggling to get to their offices and workplaces yesterday.

Translator Mel Bertaud, 25, at London Bridge station said: “I live in Canning Town and I left at 5am to make sure I could get to work on time and beat the crowds. It was a nightmare yesterday so I didn’t want to be caught out.

Primary school teacher Sophie Perry, 25, said: “I work in Ilford and I’ve just resigned myself to it. I’m sure there’s a point to the strike but surely they can make their point without bringing the whole network to a standstill. It doesn’t make London look good and I don’t think it makes people sympathetic to their cause.”

Don Donnelly, 44, a consultant, from Worthing, travelling through Victoria station, said: “At the moment I think people are sympathetic to the strike as everyone is managing to get to work, but as it goes on into next week they might start losing support as people lose patience.”

Clare Minton, 26, a speech therapist, from Brixton, said: “This is the second time and they threatened to do it not that long ago. It’s clearly not having the effect they want it to.”

At Stratford station, Brett Lawrence, 33, a commercial analyst from Wanstead, said he agreed with the right to take industrial action but added in this instance it was “fundamentally wrong”.

He added: “There probably isn’t a requirement for human ticket sellers anymore. There certainly is in terms of general enquiries and information but the ticket counters are redundant.”

Liz Mullender, 27, waiting to board the Underground at Euston said she felt the strike was “ridiculous” and “enough is enough”.

Jazz Buck, 19, who works at Gentlemen’s Choice magazine, said: “I know it’s a nightmare for people but it’s the same as any other strike that happens. This just has an affect on everyone.”
